The first step, to be honest, was terrifying. I didn't know what he'd say, I didn't know how the first meeting after 10 years would go, and I wasn't sure I even really wanted a relationship with him. I just knew that he was my father, that I missed him in my life (and the life of my family), and that I needed to figure out a way forward. So I took a step toward him.

Sometimes, other people address a subject better than me and I want to simply point people to that resource. In this case, Dr. Caroline Leaf, a renown Christian neuroscientist, has a podcast episode where she talks about facing your fear - and I'm doing just that - pointing to her.

I'm not sure about you, but I've had a rough week. I was in the mountains over the weekend to play some music with my band (I'm the bassist, BTW) and do some solo music and when I began my trip home (with my kids in the car) I hit the biggest deer 5 miles from my starting point. Needless to say, I didn't get any further.

We are quickly approaching the holiday season. A season filled with candy, sweets, pies, roasted turkeys, potatoes, and lots and lots of other carb heavy...I mean tasty foods.
