“But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. | Acts 5:29 ESV
I am 33 years old, and an American citizen. Born and raised in a nation that made the very first amendment to its founding document…the law of this land…an amendment that protected the free exercise of Christian believers to live and practice their faith in life without interference by the government.
America – a nation founded by men who, when faced with the difficult task of creating a new nation in 1789…sought the counsel and face of God and recognized that this nation would be nothing and would go nowhere without the hand of God upon it.
226 years later…this nation looks nothing like what the founders envisioned.
Today for the first time in U.S. history, a Christian was imprisoned specifically because they dared to practice their faith and apply it as not only the Bible commands, but also as our constitution was designed to allow. This was done to the sounds of cheering American’s celebrating her incarceration as the “appropriate way to deal with a bigot.”
And where, I have to ask, are all the Christians at?
Sitting at home decrying her actions and saying they agree with her that gay marriage shouldn’t be legal but that she should just shut up and do her job because “same sex marriage is the law of the land” or quit her job and let others do it.
I don’t know about you….but that response and attitude TICKS ME OFF!!
And honestly, if it doesn’t tick you off as well, I’m going to have to ask that you check your pulse.
First and foremost, it isn’t the law of the land. The Supreme Court of the United States doesn’t have the authority to create law, which is exactly what it did back in June of this year. They neither interpreted a law, nor did they interpret the constitution. They flat out overstepped their enumerated power and became a board of activist judges who felt it their duty to become kings and make decrees.
Second, and certainly not any less important….our mandate as Christians isn’t to follow U.S. law first, and God’s law second….but rather the opposite. God’s law supersedes man’s law. Did these Christians somehow forget that? Have these Christians torn Acts 5 out of their bibles? Did they forget which King we serve?
I can assure the king we serve isn’t sitting in a courthouse or the White House as apparently most of these Christians seem to believe. No!! That King, King Jesus, the very one who invented marriage…the very one who instituted it and commanded that the marriage bed not be defiled….THAT is the King we serve.
Never in a million years did I think I would live to see the day where in my own country….that was founded on Judeo-Christian ideals….Christians being forced to live out Acts 5:29….while other “Christians” attack them for being loyal to the rightful King…..the King of kings.
Church – now is not the time to cower in fear.
Now is not the time to lose sight of where our loyalty lies.
Now is not the time to abandon our own.
I pray more county clerks would stand as Kim Davis has, in every state across America.
I fully expect this to become more and more a reality, not just for county clerks, but for anyone who might defy the supreme beings in DC regarding gay marriage.
I’ll stand on the Word of God.
